Classical Music (mostly) Letham

Status:Active, open to new members

When: Weekly on Tuesday afternoons 2:00 pm-4:00 pm
Venue: Members' own homes

The Group Contact is Alastair Macfarlane.

This afternoon music group meets every Tuesday from 2-4 pm, at Alastair's home in Letham and there is a limit of 10 for each session.

As there are more people in the group than can be catered for in one session, each programme is presented twice, on consecutive Tuesdays. Members simply choose which Tuesday suits them better. There are still a small number of spaces for new members.

Programmes are widely diverse, offering a very wide range of music, broadly 'classical' but with occasional forays into other fields. The group has been running for about fifteen years now. We have covered almost every composer imaginable, with DVDs of concerts, opera and - twice - favourite musicals, closer looks at well-known works including all the Beethoven symphonies, light music, musical stories, a focus on performers (Yehudi Menuhin, for example), memorably, music chosen by prominent politicians who were kind enough to send us suggestions and a good deal more.

Generally, each programme comprises around 70 minutes of music and some background information.

Sessions are informal and very friendly. Absolutely no musical knowledge is expected or required; if you like listening to music, you are welcome to come along.
