The Committee is responsible for stewardship of the local u3a through control of its activities and its finances. The Committee administers the registration of members and the collection of subscriptions; has responsibility for monitoring and annual reporting; and also maintains liaison with u3a in Scotland. The Committee has the responsibility to maintain its committee strength annually by the terms of the u3a constitution.
In practice, the Committee also undertakes a set of activities which are intended to promote the visibility of u3a activities, in particular:
- the maintenance of the continuously updated website to inform about our events and about our groups and to attract an ongoing flow of new members;
- to provide guidance during the formation and renewal of subject groups;
- and to provide ‘open’ meetings which bring members from across the u3a body into regular contact.
